As an artist, I am inspired by the canyon lands of southern Utah and northern Arizona. I consider this to be the most beautiful area in the world. The beauty and texture of these canyon walls and the surrounding land are reflected in my work.

  • Bruce Neale - Canyon Torso Series I
As an artist, I am inspired by the canyon lands of southern Utah and northern Arizona. I consider this to be the most beautiful area in the world. The beauty and texture of these canyon walls and the surrounding land are reflected in my work. I am also inspired by the human form with its infinite variations. When applying the texture and color of the canyon walls to the human body, I find new and exciting ways of illustrating both male and female forms.

  • Bruce Neale - Peasants under Glass
"Peasants Under Glass" is due in part, to my fascination with aging. As a sculptor, it is much easier and more rewarding to represent an old face rather than a young face. The texture and wrinkles add so much to the expressions. It is as though they are saying "I earned these. They are mine." The dignity and integrity of the peasants show in their expressions. The glass covering is simply a visual pun.

  • Bruce Neale - "Big Noise from Winnetka"
"Big Noise from Winnetka," recorded in 1938 by Bing Crosby's brother Bob and his Dixieland band, Bob Crosby and the Bobcats, inspired this work. Because I am both a bass player and an artist, this sculpture combines my artistic interests. "Big Noise" features a unique duet between the bass player and the drummer. About halfway through the number, the drummer moves away from his drums and begins using his sticks to play on the lower part of the bass strings. Meanwhile, the bass player uses his left hand to play the melody high up on the strings. The result is a very remarkable duet.
